Since 2010, we have been working with another missionary couple, Carey & Susan Abbett, joining our efforts to serve the Lord in the city of Amiens. It is located in the Hauts-de-France region in the northern part of the country and is the home of 182,000 souls. The university student population is over 31,000.
In November of 2019, we were able to rent a small building in Amiens. Until then, we gathered at the home of our co-workers for most of our meetings.
Located in the downtown area, close to the pedestrian area and on the same street as several local government buildings, the Museum and the Library, it has been instrumental in making new contacts and even bringing other believers to join our church. Beforehand, we had to make important renovations to meet the safety and handicap accessibility requirements. Meanwhile, COVID and all its consequences slowed down the opening of the meeting place.
After achieving all the required changes, we were able to open our meeting place to the public. On July 11th 2021, we had our first worship service at this facility.,We’ve had over 40 visitors attend our services over the course of the first year there.
While we’ve never seen again some of these visitors, others have been coming regularly. Attendance can vary a lot but if all regular attendees are there at the same time, we would be about 20+ people. So far, 3 adults have joined us in membership, bringing it up to a total of 8 voting members.
We praise God for His work in Amiens. Please pray with us for more opportunities to share the Gospel and for our little assembly to grow spiritually.
